Doulas at Babymoon Inn

We LOVE doulas!  Here are some FAQs about doulas at Babymoon Inn.

Q.  Do you provide doulas as part of the total global fee?

A.  Yes!  We include both Dianne Hamre’s Birth Journey Workshop and her doula fee as part of your comprehensive care package.

Q.  Is a doula the same thing as a birth assistant?

A.  No.  A doula’s singular purpose is to provide labor support for both you and your partner.  A birth assistant at our facility may also provide labor support, but her main responsibility is to be the second pair of hands for the midwife and to provide medical care under the supervision of the midwife.

Q.  Who is Dianne and tell me about her!

A.  Doula Services by Dianne, Dianne Hamre CD, DONA, CLE. dianne.hamre@gmail.com | 602.881.2729

About Dianne Hamre

While living in the Seattle area, I met a very special woman by the name of Patti Ramos, who took me under her wing and let me glean from her thirty plus years as a doula and Childbirth Educator. She encouraged me to follow my heart and it was then that I began to see my dream coming true. Patti will always hold a special place in my heart! I am a certified birth doula through DONA (Doulas of North America) and have been trained as a Certified Lactation Educator through the Simkin Center for Allied Birth. Recently, I attended a Childbirth Educator training through Nurturing Hearts Birth Services and have been leading a childbirth class called The Birth Journey. This intensive one day workshop is designed for couples with emphasis on the significance of the partner’s role in labor and birth.

I became interested in the childbirth profession when I was in high school and always had a desire to be a labor and delivery nurse. While I was pregnant with our first baby, I had the privilege of attending the birth of my nephew, the first of many births I would attend before formally pursuing my passion. My husband and I have four children of our own; each pregnancy and birth was unique in its own special way. My first pregnancy went 16 days past the estimated due date, and at that time I was induced with pitocin. Thankfully, I escaped all other interventions and went on to have our 9lb 3oz son after 22 hours of labor. I had a totally unmedicated birth 22 months later when our daughter was born at 41 weeks weighing 9lb 10oz. During my last pregnancy, I carried twins to 38 weeks and gave birth to identical boys. They each weighed over 7 pounds and were born vaginally two hours apart! Each time, I managed to escape the majority of interventions that I see all too often today with women facing similar situations such as postdates, large babies and twins. Maybe I was young and naïve…I think I just believed natural birth was normal!

I have had the privilege of supporting over 50 families through the sacredness of birth. I consider each one of them to be a miracle from God and they are forever a part of my life. This would not be possible without the loving support from my wonderful husband of almost 30 years! His understanding of the hours spent away from home with a client or hours of researching on the computer means the world to me.

Our children are now all grown and our oldest has a family of his own. Thanks to him and his lovely wife, I am blessed to be Grammie to five year old Sylas and three year old Ava. I’m sure you can tell by now, family is very important to me and I believe it should begin with a positive birth experience. This is what continues driving me today to help others have the birth they desire. I appreciate the opportunity I have in working together with Babymoon to help make this a reality for more families!
